Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important official commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
